My adventures in eating all of the produce from my CSA (no matter how unusual it may be) and trying to eat as locally as possible.

CSA Week 3
Today Emily came over to can chutney and make ricotta. I'm so excited! (More about that tomorrow or Monday)
I'm also excited for cherries! Not nearly as excited as I was for asparagus, but pretty close.
I adore cherries, but if you blink you miss cherry season. Last year weather made it so the farmer's yield was not what he had hoped, so no cherries for the CSA. Last week they had told us we'd be getting cherries, but none came. We got rhubarb instead. Foiled by Mother Nature yet again. But this week. This week there are cherries. Two pounds of cherries!
And garlic scapes! I'm already imagining these roasted, chopped and added to pasta with the ricotta Emily and I made today. Maybe some spinach or rapini in there as well.
And, of course, cherries for dessert.
This week's haul:
Rapini
Sugar snap peas
Spinach
Chioggia beets
Lettuce
Escarole
Garlic scapes
Strawberries
Cherries
Eggs
Also the winner of the canned goods and dish cloth is Danae. It seems sketchy that the one person I could just hand the stuff to won (also, no matter what I do the max defaults to 100, rest assured it was 7). So just to prove everything's on the up and up, here's the random number generator:

What was in your CSA box this week? Any thoughts or recipe suggestions for the week (especially the escarole--I used to hate my grandma's scarole e fagioli and I'm not really sure what else to do with it...)?

Yay for cherries! I get more excited about them than asparagus...but not by much. :P
ReplyDeleteI love cherries too. Your photographs are especially mouthwatering this week. That is wonderful that you made your own ricotta. Thank you for sharing this post with us at the Gallery of Favorites.
