School starts on Wednesday. I got a winter squash in my CSA distribution this week. And it's the last week of the heirloom tomato share.
I think it might be fall (or at least almost).
I'm hoping that once school starts up for real I can get back into a routine again and actually post some recipes. I've been cooking up some good stuff, I just haven't felt much like posting. I'd just rather eat and enjoy. Or I'm following a cookbook so closely that a recipe doesn't feel enough like I've put my own personal twist on it and I don't want to post it. There's something very soothing about following a recipe from a trusted source to a T when you feel like everything else is kind of off-kilter or not in your control.
Of course I am happy to say now that D has finished his defense and is now Dr. D, our lives are much more like normal. Things are relaxed and happy in our home. He smiles and tells jokes again. We went on a great hike yesterday. Yes, there is still a ton of cleaning to catch up on. But mostly it's good.
The new job...well...it's going to be great, but learning about all of the school policies and procedures in the absence of actual students to try them out on...terribly confusing.
Here's this week's haul:
- leeks
- green beans
- collard greens
- a gorgeous sunshine squash
- basil
- red leaf lettuce
- 1 lb beefsteak tomatoes
- 4 lbs heirloom tomatoes (1 lb from the veg share and 1 lb from the heirloom share)
- 6 eggs
- 2 lb blue plums
